Maxine Mason, 94, of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, February13, 2012, at Liberty Commons in Weldon.

Maxine was a native of Hyde County, NC, the daughter of the late Jesse S. Mason and Jennie Harris Mason. She was also preceded in death by her very dear friend, Allen Paschal.

Maxine was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and Hardbarger Business College. She was employed for many years as a Statistical Research Assistant for the State of North Carolina, and received ''Employee of the Year'' in 1978, given by the NC State Employees’ Association. Maxine was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids.

She is survived by her three nieces, Marjorie Kraus and her husband, Neil, of Chesapeake, VA, Gay Maurice and her husband, Ross, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jessie Cross and her husband, Aubrey, of Sarasota, FL; and several cousins, Margarette S. Laughinghouse of Pantego, NC, Romalda Aman of Hickory, Hazel Worthington and Emma Sawyer, both of Washington, NC, Lucille Jones of Englehard, NC, Travis Sadler of Washington, NC, Marie Mason of Raleigh, and Harvey Mason of Greensboro.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Thursday, February 16, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel with Minister Dale Morris, Rev. Sue Owens, and Rev. Margaret Horrell officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
